Health Outreach
Role: Sterile Processor
February 24th to March 7th, 2018
Taking on the perspective as a part of the operative team was a rewarding expereince In the transfer sterile instruments to prepare the operating rooms, I gained a greater appreciation for every member of the surgical team. I had also learned to ensure that patients received the best quality of care, beginning at the initial triage and carried out through the meticulous sterilization of surgical instruments.
Role: Post-Op. Nursing Assistant
March 1st to March 11th, 2020
Upon return to the team, I took on the responsibility of a post-operative care nurses assistant. Seeing patients who had gotten out from a surgical operation to their moment of discharge was life-giving. Excellent care at this stage is crucial to the recovery and to be a part of the team effort gave some novel insight. In taking vitals, ambulating patients, cleaning bed pans, and providing courtesy curtains while speaking a different language, these tasks allowed me to interact with patients at a deeper level.
Role: Team Photographer
December 11th, 2018 to June 11th, 2019
During both of my medical missions I organized the shift schedule to be certain of time to capture beautiful moments. Participating in the clinic, outreach, stove team, kitchen crew, triage, and the comadrona-midwive classes I was able to showcase the extensive efforts of our team members helping the Guatemalan community. In partnership with Enova Illumination I was able to photograph physicians perform life changing operations. Upon return to the United States, I was approached to showcase the images at the Wayne Lyman Morse United States Federal Courthouse for ~6 months to promote local awareness of ongoing efforts by women in healthcare.
